The RF Powerlifting Team made an unforgettable mark at the recent Tucson Strength Classic powerlifting meet, bringing home an impressive haul of 7 medals, 7 state records, and achieving two MASTER rankings! The dedication, strength, and discipline of our athletes were on full display, and we couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments.
Medal Haul: A Testament to Hard Work
Our powerlifters showcased their prowess in a variety of weight classes, putting up strong performances across all three lifts – squat, bench press, and deadlift. The team left the competition in awe by securing 7 medals, further solidifying RF’s reputation as a dominant force in the local powerlifting community.
Marc Robinson placed 1st in the 90kg junior division and 90kg open division.
Annette Acuña placed 1st in the 48kg submaster division and 48kg open division.
Emma LaPointe placed 1st in the 82.5kg junior division and the 82.5kg open division as a first time lifter.
Josh Perez placed first in the 75kg open division.
Powerlifting State Records Broken
In addition to their medal count, our athletes broke an incredible 7 state records! These new records stand as a testament to their tireless training, focus, and execution on the platform. It’s not every day that records fall, and for our team to set multiple in one meet is truly remarkable.
Annette Acuna set 6 state records for the bench, squat and deadlift. 3 in the 48kg open division and 3 in the submaster division.
Emma Lapointe broke and set a state record in the 82.5kg open division for the deadlift.
Two Master Rankings Achieved
In a major milestone, two of our lifters earned MASTER rankings, cementing their status as top-tier competitors in their respective divisions. These achievements underscore not only their skill but also their consistency and commitment over the years.
Josh Perez achieved a master ranking in the 75kg division with a 572.5 kg (1259.5 pounds) total.
Annette Acuña achieved a master ranking in the 48 kg division with a 255 kg ((561 pound) total.
Master: A very skilled lifter, for males this means the lifter is likely in the top 50 in the nation for their respective weight class among comparable federations for that year. For females this means the lifter is likely in the top 20 in the nation for their respective weight class among comparable federations for that competition year. Master lifters usually perform quite well at local level competitions and may want to think about competing on a National scale. Master lifters are likely to have 6+ years of experience with serious powerlifting training. Approximately 10% of competitive powerlifters will reach the Master level of classification.
Looking Forward
The future is bright for the RF Powerlifting Team. With such outstanding performances, we are excited to see how far these athletes will go in the coming months and years. Next up, the team is preparing for USPA Tested Arizona Open, aiming to build on their momentum and continue pushing boundaries.
